Creed the film, much like it’s namesake character, isn’t interested in legacy. You can see that even in the first trailer released over the summer. That trailer took it’s time, hooking you with the charisma of Michael B. Jordan as a man who’s been fighting his whole life, looking for a chance, and then forces you to bite down with the reveal that this is in fact a continuation of the Rocky franchise.

As a rule, I don’t normally buy into these ‘based on a true story’ tales of horror. After all, it is a movie and things may have been embellished to ramp up the scares. But if you have even a passing knowledge of paranormal study, then you’ve surely heard of Ed and Lorraine Warren. Their reputation precedes them when it comes to all things paranormal. Let Me In

On the surface, Let Me In may appear to be just another entry in what many would consider an overdone genre at the moment. The vampire/ love story, or vampire/ anything story. But if you dig deeper, you’ll begin to find much more disturbing themes at play, certainly themes that you won’t find underneath all of the sparkles of this year’s other vampire film. All good things start with a girl, including Facebook. At least in the context of the film, The Social Network. I have no actual proof, nor do I know of any that exists that proves Mark Zuckerberg went on an alcohol fueled coding binge after being dumped by his girlfriend, thus creating facemash.com, bringing himself to the attention of the Winklevoss’ (Winklevi?) brothers, which gave him the idea for Facebook. But that’s the way it happened in the movie. And throughout the movie you get the impression that that breakup is Mark’s whole motivation for what he does. Continue reading “The Social Network”
